Whether you’re trying to spot out a flexitarian, or looking for a few tips on how to be a healthier vegan, we’ve posted all sorts here on the blog. What we haven’t had for a while, however, is an update on all things Mr Lee’s. We’ve had a crazy 2018 already, with the latter half of 2017 being equally as mad, so let’s talk all things noodle and dig in!
Starting with all things down under, the brand has recently begun selling from our online shop across Australia. CEO Damien Lee and Head of Sales Charlie Knight embarked upon the arduous task of flying to the land of Oz late in January, to be met by the announcement from Jetstar Airlines that both of our newly Australian-produced flavours (Hong Kong Street Beef and Zen Garden Vegetables) have started flying across Australasia and the Pacific. Shortly following the onboard provision of Zen Garden Vegetables, Jetstar was globally acclaimed as ‘Australia’s most vegan-friendly airline‘.
The 2nd of February saw our online shop go live down under. Whereas previously those in Australia were only able to get their hands on some noodles in the air, anyone across the nation can now order our two Aussie flavours to be delivered straight to their door. The rest of the Mr Lee’s range is coming soon, so watch this space!
Coming back to the UK, the awards just keep coming. Late January saw us nominated for the Health & Vitality Honours for Product of the Year, of which we were voted as the runner-up to none other than Coca-Cola for their latest reincarnation of Diet Coke. If we were to come second to anyone, I don’t think we mind giving up first place to the fizzy drink giant, but we’ll get ’em next year! Next on the plate is the FSB Celebrating Small Business Awards. We have been nominated for three of the awards, including Start-Up Business of the Year, the Business & Product Innovation Award and the South West Community Award, all of which we will find out the result of at the ceremony on the 20th of February. Though not an award, another notable mention of something that’s excited us over the past couple of weeks was our mention in The Times! Praised for our fully equipped kitchen here at Mr Lee’s HQ, the article discusses the benefits for employee and employer alike in installing kitchen spaces for staff to cook at work.
Onto the events! We already have several booked up for the start of the year, kicking off with the Portsmouth Vegan Fair. For one day, and one day only, vegans flock to the centre from all around Portsmouth and it’s surrounding areas. Held in the Guildhall, the show takes place on the 4th of March. From the coast to the big city, next up is Hotelympia. The UK’s leading hospitality and foodservice event takes place over four days, from the 5th to the 8th of March. Standing at the forefront of hospitality, we’re looking forward to meeting old friends and meeting plenty of new ones amongst some of the finest suppliers available in the market. We will be at the Springboard Charity stand – come over and say hello!
Fast forward a few weeks and we’ll be raising the vegan banners once more at VegFest Brighton! As the vegan capital of the UK, Brighton hosts one of the most exciting shows of the year with comedians, musicians and a whole host of innovative vegan brands gathering to celebrate all things meat-free across the 24th and 25th of March at the Brighton Centre. Lastly, or at least the last show we have booked to date, is WTCE in Hamburg. The World Travel Catering Exhibition is renown for being the world’s leading event for travel catering, onboard retail and passenger comfort. Held annually in Hamburg, Germany it showcases the latest onboard products and services from 350+ suppliers, and between the 10th and 12th of April we’ll be right in the middle kicking up a stir over gourmet, healthier noodles in a way only Mr Lee’s can.
We saved the best till last. A secret we’ve been sitting on for a couple months now, waiting for the right time to let it loose. Starting early March, we will be officially stocked on the internet supermarket, Ocado. This is huge news for us, enabling people around the UK to be able to purchase Mr Lee’s Noodles as a part of their weekly shop. We started this business with the aims of dominating the travel catering sector, of which we’re making leaps and bounds (with more news to come soon), but achieving this level of retail will mean enable our product to be much more widely available – we couldn’t be more excited.
