Podcasts have grown tremendously in the past few years gaining more and more listeners as time goes by, especially during the coronavirus pandemic when there was a relevant increase in podcast listening. According to Ofcom, in 2019 around 7.1 million people in the UK listened to podcasts each week, a number which is expected to increase to 14.6 million listeners in 2021.
This media format’s popularity is due to multiple factors, not only are they free to listen to and convenient and easy to consume, they are also a great form of education and entertainment as well as being a fantastic companion, making your commutes to work or house chores a little less boring.
Nowadays you can find podcasts on any topic under the sun, from sport, art and music to cooking, science and parenting, and many others. We’ve selected a few of our favourite podcasts around food, nutrition and mental health.
Table Manners with Jessie Ware
Jessie Ware and her mum Lennie are the hosts of this wonderful show which I absolutely love! Food, family, friends and table manners are the central part of this podcast.
Mother and daughter invite celebrities round to their home for a lovely homemade meal whilst they chat about food. Relaxed, natural and hilarious conversations that will make you feel like you are at the dining table just chatting away with them. Once they nearly burnt Lennie’s hair off whilst trying to torch a crème brulee.
Starring comedians James Acaster and Ed Gamble, Off Menu is the perfect podcast for foodies. In this show, restaurant critic Jay Rayner takes a range of celebrities out for lunch. They both enjoy a very relaxed conversation whilst tucking into some amazing food. If you want to learn about nutrition and wellness, Dishing up Nutrition is the podcast to listen to. The show delves into the relationship between the food you eat and how you feel. Hosted by registered nutritionists and dietitians, you will increase your knowledge and receive practical solutions to live a healthier life through nutrition.
For those of you who want to learn beyond the basics, Melissa Joy Dobbins delves into the science and psychology side of nutrition. Fearne Cotton is the host of this show which aims to help listeners find their own ‘happy place.’ The television and radio presenter talks to big names and lesser-known people about love, life, loss and other challenges they have overcome. Honesty, positivity and energy make this podcast thoroughly enjoyable.
The Positive Psychology Podcast
From mindfulness and body image to yoga, running and depression, this show covers a range of topics related to positive psychology. Kristen Truempy, who has studies in positive psychology, is the host of this podcast which aims to help people live a happier life and focus on the positive.

Jay Shetty’s podcast is inspiring, empowering and gives you a boost of positive energy. The presenter of On Purpose offers a very balanced perspective on life and provides some amazing tips which can be applied to your day-to-day life.
