Veganuary 2022: Sweet Chilli Tofu Recipe

If you’ve decided to do Veganuary this year, here’s a great recipe to try. This sweet chilli steamed tofu dish is a simple and super tasty way of cooking your tofu. Serve it with a side of white rice and it’s the perfect meal.   


Sweet Chilli Tofu

Easiest Veganuary recipe

 Serves 2 - Doddle - Vegan recipe - 15 minutes


  • 450g tofu
  • 70g red pepper
  • 150g courgette
  • 60g echalion shallots
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp chilli sauce
  • 150ml coconut water
  • 1 pinch of Szechuan peppercorn (crushed)
  • Corn flour water for thickening
  • A few drops of sesame oil
  • Handful of roasted peanuts (optional)



1. Dice your tofu and soak it in boiling water for 3 minutes.

2. In the meantime, add vegetable oil to a hot wok and fry your crushed Szechuan peppercorn, along with the red peppers, shallots and courgette and cook everything for around a minute.

3. Add your light soy sauce and chilli sauce and stir so that everything is coated.

4. Next, pour in the coconut water and let it come to a boil.

5. Mix your corn flour with water and pour it into the pan in order to thicken the sauce and add in a few drops of sesame oil

6. Once thickened, drain your tofu and add it to the pan and stir it for a few minutes.

7. Divide onto plates and serve with a sprinkle of roasted peanuts on top.
