There’s no doubt about it, 2020 has been a year like no other. Amid all the difficulties it has presented, we at Mr Lee’s have accomplished quite a lot and we would like to reflect on some of the milestones we’ve reached as well as give you a look into what is coming this 2021.
In early February we grew our small team, taking on three new starters; Francesca, Cleo and Ginny, each operating in different areas of the business. It was a key point of growth for our team before going global with our launch in the USA.
During the horrendous Australian Bushfires of 2019/2020 almost 80% of Australians were affected either directly or indirectly. Not only did this hit our team hard in Australia, but it also impacted our team here in the UK. Our Aussie born founder Damien wanted to play a part in supporting the brave men and women who fought these fires, so we donated 25,000 cups to those in need of food.
Noodle donations didn’t stop there for us though, as around the world we were all hit with the first wave of COVID-19. We at Mr Lee’s have always believed in the importance of healthy food choices whatever the circumstances and with the support of our amazing fans we were able to donate over 10,000 cups to the NHS and foodbanks in the UK and supported the Australian foodbanks with a further 1,000+ cups.
With the team settled down into working from home we continued to pursue our global vision of launching Mr Lee’s across America, which meant initiating/starting our crowdfunding campaign with Seedrs. We secured our target in less than a week and this allowed us to reach one of our biggest achievements, our expansion into the USA. Our award-winning noodles are now available in Whole Foods Market stores across the USA as well as being available online on both our website and Amazon.
This 2020 we also launched a completely new product into the Australian and USA markets. Our Mr Lee’s Congee, an instant rice-based savoury porridge, is available in two flavours our vegan Original Congee Rice Porridge and our Chicken Congee Rice Porridge. This pan-Asian all-day staple comes with high quality freeze-dried ingredients and a unique 4-grain blend. Don’t know what congee is? You can read our post here to find out more.
It was also a big year for Damien, our CEO and founder, who appeared on the big screen with his family on Rich House Poor House back in April. The show is available on Channel 5 in the UK and on TVNZ in New Zealand. Damien has also been busy with his new podcast Life is… with Damien King Lee which is aimed at inspiring people who have also faced their challenges. Claire Holt and Wesley Snipes are some of the guests who join Damien to discuss their life journeys. The podcast is available on Apple, Spotify and Google or you can listen here.
It’s not that we like showing off but... we’ve actually bagged a few awards this year! We were awarded the Gold Stevie for Entrepreneur of the Year in the Food and Beverage category and the Silver Stevie for the Most Valuable Corporate Response during Covid-19 pandemic in the 2020 IBAs USA awards. We were also Highly Commended in the Grocer New Product Awards 2020 for our Coconut Chicken Laksa in the Soup, Rice and Noodles category. Pretty awesome, huh?
So, what awaits us in this new year? As you can see, 2020 has been extremely intense but this is only the start and our intention is to go even further. This 2021 promises to be a very busy and exciting year for Mr Lee’s.
We aim to continue expanding our brand making it available for a wider public as well as diversifying our product range. Our food team is working hard on very exciting new ideas and we can’t wait to give you an insight into what this involves. We want to continue to meet the needs of consumers in the marketplace and our vision is to develop healthier food options to choose from.
New year, also means new blog! Like most people, we set ourselves some New Year objectives and rebooting our blog was one of them. We have given it a makeover and we’ve created a new one with a totally different format!
We at Mr Lee’s are passionate about everything food and we want to share this enthusiasm and love with all of you.
